MUSIC AND VISUAL ART UNITED FOR ONE MEMORABLE CONCERT
Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin performed 10 world premiere musical sketches created in response to the paintings of two iconic Australian artists Margaret Olley AC (1923-2011) and William Robinson AO.
This intimate concert at the William Robinson Gallery also featured performances by the exquisite Orava Quartet and Katie Noonan. An exhibition of selected paintings by Margaret Olley and a newly curated William Robinson exhibition were also on display at the venue, with images of the works that inspired Kats-Chernin’s improvisations projected throughout the performance in a unique and beautiful collision of music and art.
In the week leading up to the concert, Kats-Chernin sketched and composed her improvisations as composer-in-residence at the art-inspired hotel, The Johnson. Kats-Chernin also lead two masterclasses, providing a unique opportunity for composition students to watch her creative process.
The Sound Of Art was presented by Queensland Music Festival and Brisbane City Council.
