Spirit of India

Spirit of India

Queensland Music Festival is proud to present a truly magical double bill in a rich celebration of Indian culture and classical music. Presented in both Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, highly acclaimed veena player Jayanthi Kumaresh and renowned Indian classical singer Pandit Kaivalyakumar, will share the beauty of their individual heritage in an evocative and spell-binding concert.

Kumaresh is a highly versatile Saraswati veena artist. Her lilting music offers solace, comfort and contemplation. The veena itself is India’s most revered and sacred musical instrument.

Kaivalyakumar, one of India’s most loved and admired singers, brings the noble tradition of Kirana — the most creative of all singing styles. The rhythmic texture of this music is highly intricate and ornamented with grace notes producing poignant effects.

These talented artists are not only giving in the musical sense but will also share their expertise in an inspiring masterclass for local musicians. Audiences and participants alike will be transported right to the heart of India by this incredible pairing.
