Phillip Prendergast is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music at the Griffith Conservatorium in Brisbane under voice teachers Margaret Schindler and Glenn Winslade. In 2012 Phillip was a Developing Young Artist with Opera Queensland and has been a chorister since 2010. His concert engagements include Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise and Elijah, Haydn’s The Seasons and Creation, and Maunder’s Olivet to Calvary.
As a chorister for Opera Queensland Phillip has sung in Aida (2010), The Girl of the Golden West (2011), Tosca (2011), Macbeth (2012), The Mikado on tour (2012), St Matthew Passion (2013), Cinderella (2013), Otello (2013) and La boheme (2014).
He was a Finalist at the Dame Joan Sutherland award in 2010 and won the Alton Budd memorial bursary at the Murwillumbah Eisteddfod in 2010. He was awarded a Toowoomba Community Arts Bursary in 2009. In 2011 He performed in the Tyalgum Classical Music Festival as a young virtuosi and sang with Guy Booth at a recital for 4MBS Radio.
At the Griffith Conservatorium Phillip has performed Don Curzio in The Marriage of Figaro, and the School Master in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen. He is due to perform as Nerone in Monteverdi’s Poppea under director Anna Sweeny, and the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel with Maestro Johannes Fritzsch and director Michael Gow, at the Conservatorium later this year.
