Film & Feelings: The Power of Melody
Drawing the audience into the emotions of a film is the primary focus of a film composer’s job; but how does one achieve this? Should the composer use recognisable musical themes, shorter recurring musical ideas called motifs, or none of the above?
Respected Hollywood composer and orchestrator, Cameron Patrick, will share some insight on how the film composer assembles the building blocks for his or her score, discussing examples from famous movies as well as demonstrating the scoring process live using musicians from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
Patrick’s credits are diverse and include motion pictures such as Zootopia, Inside Out, Star Trek Into Darkness, Jupiter Ascending and Jurassic World.
