The Opportunity

Queensland Music Festival (QMF) is committed to breaking down barriers and redefining what it means to create accessible and inclusive cultural experiences. With a vision to ensure that everyone—regardless of ability, background, or identity—can access and enjoy music, QMF has embedded accessibility into the heart of its programming and operations.

The Outcome

Through strategic partnerships and bold programming choices, QMF has enhanced access to its events for First Nations communities, people with disability, and those with diverse access needs. From integrating culturally safe ticketing options to building physical infrastructure and providing on-ground wellbeing support, QMF has set new standards in creating welcoming, inclusive environments for all Queenslanders.

First Nations Ticketing Pathway

Embedded via Mobtix across key QMF events.

Project Overview

QMF’s mission to champion accessibility was brought to life through a number of innovative initiatives across its programming: 

  • Mobtix Integration: QMF proudly partnered with Mobtix, an Indigenous-owned ticketing platform, to provide culturally safe and accessible ticketing options for First Nations Peoples. This initiative ensured better access and representation across QMF events and opened pathways for deeper community engagement. 
  • Partnership with Spinal Life: For Sweet Relief 2023 and 2024, QMF worked closely with Spinal Life Australia to design and deliver more physically accessible experiences. This included the creation of a dedicated viewing platform to ensure guests with mobility requirements could enjoy prime sightlines to performances. Spinal Life also consulted on accessible infrastructure and amenities to support audience comfort and safety. 
  • ConcertCare Services: QMF embed on-ground wellbeing support at its events, offering attendees access to nurses, social workers, mental health practitioners, and peer counsellors. These services contributed to a safer and more supportive festival environment for people with hidden or complex accessibility needs. 
  • Auslan Interpretation: To ensure deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences could fully engage with the live music experience, QMF program Auslan interpreters on stage. These performances were met with enthusiastic feedback and expanded the accessibility of QMF events to wider audiences. 

“I also very much appreciate the effort put into accessibility. Even though I didn’t use the extra services/infrastructure myself, I like that everyone in our community can enjoy the event.
